Tangled Muse Poem by Steven Webster

Tangled Muse

I found myself a spider
In a barroom sat beside her
She said,
'Man you need a hand
And I have eight.'
We broke wine and bread
For dinner
Then I found myself within her
Wondering why this web
we weave's so complicated.

It's hard, and I find
That there is no peace of mind
Just couriers of darkness
And dismay
With every harbinger of doubt
Every demon that's cast out
The songbird's singing
La la
Lie lie lie lie

So I asked of a Madonna
I said, 'Lady if you wanna
Join my paramour and me
Across the table.
The Devil's most beguiling
While the God sits there idly smiling
Leaving we
The lone assasains in this fable.'

Well it's hard, and I find
That there is no peace of mind
Just couriers of darkness
And dismay
With every harbinger of doubt
Every demon that's cast out
The songbird's singing
La la
Lie lie lie lie

Six billion Thumbelinas
Infiltrate the space
Between us
Don't they say it all
Begins and ends in Africa?
And these continental caverns
All remind me of
A Tavern
Where a barroom spider
Weaves her web with me.
