Talk To Me, America Poem by Jade Leven

Talk To Me, America

everybody's dying in the hospital
everybody's crying so loud
screaming out for the end of their war
they've done this, they've done this, they've done this before

it's colder than winter in their last days
and will we ever realize it's not just a phase
I'm afraid that I just can't help but see
the message that's being conveyed to me

talk to me, America
where did we go wrong?
tell me, land of the free
why we've been crying so long

everybody's standing in the street
nobody's landing on their feet
they fall and fall, over and over
wishing and hoping, looking over their shoulder...

thinking they'll see the face of their love
what do they think this nation is made of?
the mountains our obstacles, the rivers our tears
no safe haven can be found here

talk to me, America
where did we go wrong?
tell me, home of the brave
why we've been crying so long

the countdown starts now
it won't stop until we're done
for so many people
this will be the last rising sun
people are hurting
and we keep deserting them
who do we think we are?

talk to me, America
why haven't you answered their call?
tell me, land of the free
what is the meaning of 'justice for all? '

everybody's dying in the hospital
everybody's crying so loud
screaming out for the end of this war
we've done this, we've done this, we've done this before
America...
you've done this, you've done this, you've done this before.

I hear ya, Jade. I hear ya. Sad, isn't it?
