Taking One For The Team Poem by Josh Short

Taking One For The Team

A final blow and I am home
Taken down by the unknown
As the breath exits my chest
I can’t help but feel like it’s just another test

It’s like life’s come undone
And I’m finally left alone
It’s probably for the best
I don’t think that I’ll be missed

My power source is getting low
It’s your fault, I hope you know
Unknown star in endless light
Reminiscence for a lonely night

My weariness begins to grow
Although I won’t let it show
I’ll leave this world just as bright
As I was when I kept sight

I guess I have to accept my fate
I’ll just settle amongst the late
Forgotten what I was fighting for
Not that it matters anymore

Shame to think I was once great
Reduced to just more flesh in meat
Forgotten what I was fighting for
Not that it matters anymore
