Take The Good Room Poem by Adrian Taheny

Take The Good Room

Back, beyond the womb, through a closed door,
To a sacred place, where time began.
I am aware and gaze upwards, fearful,
As I listen to familiar sounds, breaking the silence.

No movement, lest the moment is lost forever,
No one shall intrude on my wakening.
I am aware and gaze upwards, fearful,
As another chariot carries a late hero, home.

Twenty two years of love, hate, joy and sadness
Make this night a mighty marathon.
I am aware and gaze upwards, fearful,
As I hear their breathing, through papered walls.

The same bird starts this summer morning chorus;
A prayer for the sound of my fathers footsteps.
I am aware and gaze upwards, fearful,
at last, as always, he answers my prayer.

Light creeps through new curtains, on new carpets,
A voice beside me, and reality returns.
I am aware and gaze upwards, fearful,
As I realise, one day, soon, it will all be gone
