Tachycardia Poem by Rebecca Hogan

Tachycardia

Sometimes I pretend you're here
Lying beside me
Just to grasp the feeling,
Beyond what's reality
The joyous sensation -
You run your fingers through my curls
And gently place them behind my ear
The warmth of your embrace
Could nearly bring me to tears
The chain reaction between us
Almost electrifying

Blood pumps viciously through my veins
As your face gets closer to mine
Looking down as I do
Nervousness is multiplying
Leaning at an angle
Joined as one

Just for a moment
Hoping someday
This fragment of pretending
Could be real
