Sweet Revenge Poem by Evelyn Macdonald

Sweet Revenge

Rating: 5.0

Impressionable still at seventeen
and working for a living
years of degradation cloaked
the fine art of forgiving

To wit, I was the office girl
the junior and the goffer
young, eager, out to please
and certainly no loafer

And then they hired this aging witch
a self proclaimed old mentor
who little did I realize
would become my youth's tormentor

She thought herself elite you see
far above this miner's daughter
and spent her energy each day
spewing.....what I aught'r

Snarling, 'dont do this and 'dont do that'
and 'why are you doing it that way'
chipping away at my self esteem
dreading every work day

An unsigned card she once received
with words of much disdain
someone else must hate her too
but I still got the blame

Eventually the years dragged by
and my revenge grew stronger
the caustic tongue retired at last
under her rule no longer

The years have had their toll of course
and nightmares flood my dreams
I'm back in that old office
with the person of my screams

There is a happy end to this
my conflict was resolved
in yet another dream
I did outmouth the one involved

Alas she's gone and I now have
the maturity that I crave
allow me then to tell you all
I danced upon her grave
