Surroundings Poem by Somanathan Iyer

Surroundings

to write or not to write
if at all to write what to write
about surroundings where I live
about places read and heard
about nature from imagination
or about desires that I fantasize
which write is in for an accolade
which one as ever finds ignored
a real dilemma in front of me
unconcerned with bouquets or brickbats
surroundings I chose as my plot
an ant is racing in search of food
a spider waiting for her catch
a cow swallowing plastic cover
two dogs fighting over piece of bread
a bull nearby snatching the bread
without footwear in the scorching sun
a old woman walking asking for alms
hooted her away while boarding the car
people born with silver spoon
unmindful of people walking behind
a man blows his nose without even stopping
exposed to dust and swarmed by flies
eatables at roadside motels flocked by people
smoking cigarettes Romeos turned rogues
passing comments on passing women
emerging from a liquor shop besides a school
engaged in a brawl are enraged drunks
this is the routine that occur everyday
around us, including us and involving us!

to write or not to write if at all to write what to write I am glad to see you come back with poems and more. An ant crawling and a spider hunting all become beautiful topics. Keep it going.
