Surmount The Night Poem by Ron Pate

Surmount The Night

Our journey's duration into the darkness is dependent on our desire to walk into the light once again:

Surmount the Night

As the newborn darkness transitions into shadow, my words fall upon deaf ears.  My eyes reach out desperately into the dark trying to capture what's left of the light from the growing nothingness.

An inauspicious presence surrounds me and my heart pounds in my chest.  I reassure
myself, it's only the dark, the void of the night.

As I fastinate within the unkindled rooms searching for a way out, no exit felt.  I am confined in the void of the night.

The prison that I'm in dissipates with daybreak and as I awake, shaking, in a pool of cold sweat.  I can feel my heart begin pounding, once again,  knowing,  i will return in a few short hours, to travel into the vacancy of the night.
