The Silent Sword

(April 2,1997)

Supremacy

We humans,
Capable of creating massive structures of
Wood, iron, steel, and stone.
We humans,
Capable of traversing
Forests, deserts, seas, and skies.
We humans,
Capable of annihilating whole
Towns, cities, peoples, and species

Without so much as a thought
As to how much power we hold.

Yet we yield to a power
Without physical form.
When confronted by love, we bow,
Brought down to our knees, we bow.

Poem of the Day

poet Alfred Lord Tennyson

It little profits that an idle king,
By this still hearth, among these barren crags,
Match'd with an aged wife, I mete and dole
Unequal laws unto a savage race,
