Sunsets At Manila Bay Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Another day is passed but smiles are on our faces,
Knowing that it is not yet over under the sky.
For we know that the rays of light are in all places
Even though my eyes proved the evening tide has drawn nigh.

Watching every wave, no matter how humble or proud
As vanishing ships from a distance part from the docks,
We hear the sounds of harmony from waters that laud
The dear Maker of motherland’s adornments and frocks.

Turning to the Grandstands with a hero from a view,
We are found in the smiles of young lovers and their joys
As we reserve an affection grown in springtime dew—
The hearts of patriots and the courage of their choice.

And right now, my Dearest, walk with me in peeping light
Then recall to ourselves how we met and what will be
Because they say troubled waters will appear this night
But nothing can harm us while fears stay in history.

Farewell the mornings of an earthly waking moment,
When oft we expect the sun as gold as it had been.
Farewell the ceasing afternoons of vanities spent
Until the shores let another voyage to begin.

Let our eyes look to the haven of a weary soul
Where hope grows as he rests in the Arms of forever
As You softly caress and hold my hands while we stroll
‘Til at last we have proved our lives in one together.

Sunsets at Manila Bay, though a lovely day dies,
Light continues as sure as tomorrow’s Sun will rise.
