Sunflower Poem by Morgan Michaels

Sunflower

Sunflower, you've grown:
The fist shaken in the sun's face
Now splits to show
Fingers of suppliant gold;
Animus of promise, switched
(Much for the better) ,
To acceptance of essence.

Unlike the daisy- check
Unlike the dahlia, - check
The morning glory- check,
The sweet pea, the rough-cheeked poppy, or,
Check, check- nothing but you, you are
Plainly and simply- caring little, really,
That you shall crumble and die.

Even Herr sun is changed-
Once aloof, so cold
So full of blame, now
Smiling from its fiery collar,
Beckoning- 'child, my child, come,
I will give you my name.'
What does it want? Is it really changed?

Sunflower is the symbol of Man's unfulfilled aspirations, and longing...yes, and the sun has given its name to it, the reward is enough i think! ! !
