Summer Solstice Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Summer Solstice

Rating: 5.0

Daylight
lingers on
beyond
her due,
until
the starlit night
clad in shorts
bids her
goodbye;
moon pays
a late visit.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Today,21 June is the Summer Solstice, when in the Northern Hemisphere, the day is the longest and night the shortest. From hereon, days get shorter in a calibrated manner. So, it is the harbinger of the winter. It is exactly opposite in the Southern Hemisphere, where the day is the shortest and night longest on this day, and it spells the end of winter season when summer saunters in. All this happens because the spin axis of Earth is inclined to its rotational axis, if I may be allowed use scientific language.
