Summer Night Poem by Matloob Bokhari

Summer Night

SUMMER NIGHT
In those lonely moments
I embraced the silence and the silent breeze
In that moonlit silver night
All the world around slept
Warm tears coursed down from my eyes
Ambrosia! O Ambrosia!
Burning in your love
In the fields of imagination
In the idle fancies,
I was toying with your thoughts
Closed my eyes: I saw you
O Ambrosia! O my Ambrosia
I heard your voice sweeter than rain sounds
I saw you standing amidst the emerald green trees
Your shining ivory skin,
Wearing a silvery dress
With pink roses in blue and violets
Saw you sailing through the fluffy clouds
Gentle breeze was gracefully playing with your long hair
Walking on fresh and fertile green grass
Dancing in harmony with the mountain stream
I saw your eyes darker than the darkest sleeping night
Your ruby red lips
Your smile charming than the tulip
You were looking more beautiful than a butterfly with golden wings
O rain! O summer rain!
I saw you floating in the clouds free of all earthly bounds
Soaring high, very high and free with joyful melody
O night! O dark summer night!
Suddenly,
I heard cries of widows and orphans
Moaning in rubbles and ashes:
Helpless and fatherless
Agony, death, violence, war and coffins
Soldiers praying for peace and politicians brandishing swords and spears
I felt pain of the deepest wounds deep in my beating heart
In the gloomy dark night amid gathering storm
Everything was sinking in sorrow;
Everything in grief
O tears! O silent tears of lonely night!
I cried all alone
My flowing tears wrote hymns of peace on pillow
Which my pen could not write on a page
