Sugar Poem by Vera Sidhwa

Sugar

Sugar

I saw some in brown,
Some in white,
Some in confectioner’s delight.
I saw it on the baby’s mouth.

I tasted it in a banana,
I savored it on a cooky.
I tasted in a cake,
That they freshly did bake.

I saw it in my lover’s smile.
I saw sugar in my baby’s eyes.
I saw it in my friends’ faces,
Of sugary moments of love’s traces.

Yellow colored lemonade on a hot day,
Red colors of a sugary watermelon slice.
Which to my hungry tongue entice.

I have the sugar cane to thank,
The mystery of all this world’s sugar sweetness.
Would exude to man’s nature,
To help make sweet,
The lives of each other.
