Suffering Poem by Peter Guzzo

Suffering

I am on the printed page,
Forever doomed to eternal rage,
I am on the printed page,
Forever trapped throughout all age.

I am crying for the ink,
I am crying for the blood,
I am crying for the salty sweat
and tears of those who have crawled through the mud.

I am on the printed page,
Forever doomed to eternal pain,
I am on the printed page,
Forever doomed to stay the same.

I am made up of the ink,
I am made up of the blood,
I am made up of the salty sweat
and tears of those who have crawled through the mud.

I am on the printed page,
Forever doomed to eternal fear,
I am on the printed page,
Forever taking those who are near.

I am laughing at the ink,
I am laughing at the blood,
I am laughing at the salty sweat
and tears of those who have crawled through the mud.

I am on the printed page,
Forever walking along with death,
I am on the printed page,
Forever cleaning up what is left.

For what is left after a war?
What is left after a fight?
What walks through history even more,
Even more than the eternal night?
I do.
