Strange Communication Poem by Sandra Feldman

Strange Communication

Everybody is too busy,
To pay attention to others,
Anonymously yours,
Closes most human doors.

Yes, we are much too busy,
To engage in friendly conversation,
In attention that won't smother,
The rights and thoughts of others.

We want to communicate,
But not always thru machines,
Those inanimate gadgets,
With keyboards and doctrines,
That more towards dementia lean,
Always tapping,
Always living in a screen.

WE WANT TO COMMUNICATE - that's the desire that runs through this poem, and other desires cluster around that one showing how central communication is to our species. On one side of that desire is loneliness, on the other, union. Your poem moves toward Union of Beings. TO PAY ATTENTION TO OTHERS seems so easy and yet it is an activity shadowed by our machines, computers, iphones - so many disguises interfering with our human contact. But your poem gives me confidence the want, the need, the desire TO BE IN TOUCH will triumph!
