Stopping Steak Poem by Felicity Koch

Stopping Steak

The smell of sautéed pork filled the air at dinnertime
That horrible scent came from everybody's meal except mine
Because I am brave enough to stand up and say
That eating another animal is not okay
They were so beautiful and had a life
Now your cutting through them with your steak knife
Slaughtered and tore apart
From a farm and a family to your shopping cart
The fact that your meal is dead is real
And I'm sure you know that pigs can feel
But people still put their flesh on their plates
If you believe then it's never too late
Nobody even tries to care
It doesn't matter how long I give them a stare
I eat tofu
My family eats meat from steak to stew
Being vegetarian is hard
But your food belongs at a barnyard
At least I know that all lives are equal including the smallest bird
And I'm willing to change to make my voice heard
