Stop-Police! Poem by R W Burke

Stop-Police!

Stupid acts of selfishness
Leave precious dogs to die
These noble beasts who risk their lives
Without ever asking why

They give their all to back you up
In what-ever you direct
You would not treat a human being
With such careless disrespect

No thought for helpless canine
Trapped inside a metal can
No rescue team can he expect
From you, his salient man

His dying breaths are painful
And terror has a grasp
There’s no way out, the heat’s too much
It’s canine’s final gasp

Too late to rescue man’s best friend
The handler spares a thought
For partner left to suffocate
Distressed. Betrayed. Distraught.

You condemn all public members
For such similar behaviour
And yet you are much worse yourselves
As murderer not saviour

These people should be put away
For such shocking negligence
No dog deserves such disregard
For pure heroic allegiance.
