Stones Poem by Scott Kimbrough

Stones

This sack is too heavy now
Too heavy to bear
I carry this sack each day
It hasn’t been fair

It’s filled with my grudges
My worries and cares
It’s filled with the bad things
They cause my nightmares

So, I’m taking out stones now
I will throw them away
I’m taking out stones ‘cause
It all ends today!

This stone is guilt and
This one is shame
That one is anguish
And this one is blame

This stone is madness
And this one, abuse
There all coming out now
Stopping’s no use

I’m taking out stones now
Throwing them all away
I’m taking out stones ‘cause
It all ends today!

Remember that day
You gave me this stone
Father beat me so bad
And left me alone

That stone was heavy
And this one is too
Instead of my trust
I now fear you

I’m taking out stones now
Throwing them all away
I’m taking out stones ‘cause
It all ends today!

There’s just one more here
To give a good throw
This stone is the hate
That I have to let go

I made it this far
And I have to say
I won’t pick up stones
No more after today

I have no more stones now
I cast them all away
I have no more stones
It all ended today!
