Stolen Glances Poem by Ibn Ali

Stolen Glances

Perspiring Eyes Nostalgic,
Blinded by reminiscence,
Indulgence in yesterday,
It began with stolen glances,
A cautionary tale,
Let each man restrain his gaze,
She made hostage the king in castle,
The troops powerless to resist,
Her purposeful advances,
When she kissed he claimed duress,

What makes fools of wisemen?
Fairies the battle hardened?
Warmongers fierce in fields severe?
Who kill and bat not an eyelid,
Yet a single thought of their love bring saline streams to faces ardent,

It began with stolen glances,
The heart confirmed what the eyes sought after,
And the lust like rust on his rock like heart grew rustier and harder,
A pilferer, who sight belied,
The depth to which his whims inclined,
He stole a glance, was left devoiced,
A heart diseased, a mind despoiled,
Stubborn, refusing to fade,
Memories linger, forever dawn,
Aftermath of a solstice day,
The remainding warmth,

It began with stolen glances,
And ended in disaster,
All the joy he felt and knew he'd trade,
To rid himself the resultant pain.
