Stepfather Poem by Marites C. Cayetano

Stepfather

I've never called you father
I've never called you
even in your name
but what is this pain in my heart
as I say these last words to you
goodbye stepfather...

The mourners are already gone
and yet here I am
standing still in front of you
while the flowers
gently swayed by the wind
are you looking at me?

Though I have no memories
of being close to you
with these tears in my eyes
it cannot be denied
you were a part of my life
goodbye stepfather.

Goodbye stepfather...
for some time in your life
did you wish me to call you father?
Goodbye stepfather
goodbye...
father.
