Steal The Night Poem by Lora Cooley

Steal The Night

We walked
Touching starlight for goodbye
He and I made this trip during the night
Finding adventure in lamppost light kisses on the
Cheek to cheek hiding from invisible cars
Afraid of all our parents might not see
He and I made paths ing the pavement
Never worn down enough to be travled more then once
To be remember only during the summer
Where magic is untainted moonlight
He placed a crown of flowers on my head but only calling them weeds
It was a night like this called a blanket
No trace of cold on our skins
Where I couldn't find a bedroom that would remember my name
Inside his open palm wanting to know where you'll take him from
But its only one night for you to take him to
One night until the stars start to fade out saying goodbye each time
One for each broken bottle we find
The lampposts burning out
Flickering on and off shoeing us home
I held on to his open palm
25 seconds longer
He and I running through seperate mazes in the cement
Trying to puzzle out way home before that last touch of magical Moonlight turned into the judgemental stare of the sun
He and I stole that one night
He and I touched stars for goodbye
He and I walk moonbeams of memory
Untainted magic
Moonlight
And no goodbyes
