Standing By My Grave Poem by Lance Carthen

Standing By My Grave

Im standing here looking at my grave
Been standing here for three damn days
I cant beleive that I finally died
I had so much to do, so much to try
Well I guess its too late to cry
The funeral it was a beautiful one
People Ive never seen showing up, for the fun
It really broke my heart to see my family cry
Then hear the preacher say things about me
But half the things he said were lies
As they all stood under the tarp by the tree
It was a day to remember me
The live's I touched how I set them free
I feel sorry for the friends who missed it
Will they remember me or am I now just a statistic?
I read the letters on the plaque by my grave
Seems they mispelled my name
But it doesnt really matter
The body inside is the same
Well I guess that I better move on
Hear the after life calling but Im so stubborn
Maybe now I can finally meet Christopher Reeve
We can hang out and talk about the things weve seen
Maybe even Ill run into William
Id like to gripe him out for just dissapearin
Could I even meet Daddy Jim again
When I was a kid he surely was my friend
Well time to go now its been fun
Maybe you'll one day meet me and we can fall in love
Well then this is goodbye
Here come the angels from up in the sky
One more thing Id like to say
Dont get scared when it happens to you one day
Because death and life are kinda the same...
see ya..
