Stages Of Guilt Poem by Brandon Schleh

Stages Of Guilt

Dear Friend
Where are you?
Where’s our promise?
You broke it
You left me!
Why..

Dear Friend
Was it me?
Was it what I said?
Did I cause this?
Cause your skin to pale
Cause your breath to stop?
Could I have saved you?
I would have if I knew!
Why didn’t you tell me.
It’s my fault
It’s my fault!

Why did you go?
She didn’t deserve this!
She was so strong!
I can’t believe I broke her.
It’s my fault..

Dear Friend
Can I do it?
Nobody else is here to stop me
But she’d be hurt
But she isn’t here
But she’d be disappointed!
But.. She isn’t here..
Should I be?
Should I really?

An eye for an eye
It fits perfectly!
You took your life
For me
So can I take mine
For you?

Dear Friend
Why did you go?
You were clean for so long!
But.. were you really?
Were you lying and covering the scars?
While behind my back you were making more?

Dear Friend...
I’ve lived long enough..
I don’t think I need to be here anymore..
So bury me with my letters.
I’m on my deathbed
74 years later.
And on my way to see you..

Dear friend..
I’m sorry.
