St. Francis And The Fly Poem by Glen Kappy

St. Francis And The Fly

from 'Wonderful and Wise'

Did Francis preach to you, O fly
while you buzzed about his food?

Or was a swat his swift reply
so he might in peace conclude?

You’re welcome. And thank you, Tony, for reading and commenting. I wrote this years ago in my wondering about God’s purpose in creating flies. Francis is reputed to have shared the Good News even with animals—so it was natural to think of him in this. I’ve changed some since I wrote this. Knowing better that only God can create life, I try not to take it from anything. -Glen

Very funny wondering. Irony of concluding in peace by swatting the fly - so un- St. Francis-like!
