Squirrels Poem by Tom Billsborough

Squirrels

Rating: 2.8

Auburns, peach, pale ambers and pale greens transfer
From earth to sky, suffusing it with complementary layers.
Shadow-tail, scurry back to the anthems of copper,
Garner life from sweet staves.

The squirrel is arboreal, but its interests are down-to-earth. The serviceable color of copper is contained within the scrollwork outlines of oak leaves. They are steady and solemn like anthems, never flashy like leaves of other trees. The word GARNER reminds us that the forest also has its harvest season.

I like squirrels too and yet do not want mice and rats around (same family) silly humans 10 strictly because it is so sophisticated I don't quite follow it. I know my limitations.

I thought I'd put some notes on this one. Anyway, shadow-tail is the English Red Squirrel. Anthems of Copper are the high rising beech trees. Indirectly it's about the beauty of Autumnal colours and watching the squirrels racing up and down the trees to collect nuts. Sort of a few joyful moments that sometimes occur when you are out walking.
