Square Poems 35: Grouse Acrostic Poem by Kim Barney

Grouse spend most of their time on the ground feeding, and normally only fly up to escape predators. They have great camouflage, and usually sit very still until the predators are extremely close.
The grouse family includes ptarmigans and prairie chickens.
The forest-dwelling ruffed grouse stands on a log and drums the air with his cupped wings, producing a deep booming sound that can be heard more than a mile away. I love to hear that sound, and many are the times that I have heard it.

I call these square poems because they have the same number of syllables per line as there are lines in the poem. For example, a four-line poem would have four syllables per line, and a five-line poem would have five syllables per line.

This poem has six lines, so it has six syllables per line.

Square poems do not have to rhyme, and they do not have to be acrostics.
