Spring Brook Mountain Poem by Francis Duggan

Spring Brook Mountain

It's nice up at the top of Spring Brook Mountain
In the shade of the tall rain forest trees
No traffic noise, the mountain air is cooler
And there's a freshness in the evening breeze.

The pademelons hopping through the clearing
In many places these marsupials rare
Though on Spring Brook Mountain they seem quite abundant
Small families of them scattered here and there.

Some people have this idea about Queensland
Of miles and miles of country flat and gray
But Queensland has it's cool rainforest mountains
The green highlands where birds sing every day.

Some people have this idea about Queensland
Of white beaches and sunny coastal town
Where people swim and surf in the warm waters
From endless months of sun shine bronzed and brown.

But Queensland has it's green and higher places
Where peace and quiet and beauty can be found
Scarce touched by man where wild life is abundant
Rainforest hills and green valleys all around.

And such a place is Spring Brook Mountain Forest
In the cool shade of the rainforest trees
Pademelons in the open hop towards cover
And birds are singing in the evening breeze.
