Speaking Eyes Poem by Chris Jibero

Speaking Eyes

Never knew that eyes
could speak volumes
better than mouth
till I saw yours
fixed on me
like vice holding
a piece of wood
in a carpenter's
shed
gaping at me with awe
written on the slate
of your brow
a summons dispatched
expressly to an undiscerning
heart that cannot decipher
an innocuous invitation
from a desperate solicitation

Gaze, gaze and gaze
not demurring one inch
eager to eat me up
like a lion liberated
from a season of hunger

Come to my habitat
these eyes say to me
for we have cooked
and served you a kingly
dinner on your exclusive
dinning table
only for you
and for you alone to savour

These eyes so inviting
so dreamy
so captivating
so balmy
with tears welling in them
tired with a waiting game
that wears out the fabric
of love are
making my feet buckle

Tell me how I can keep
resisting these eyes
that follow me everywhere
like a nagging shadow
continuously pleading
to be taken and digested

Tell me how I can
prolong this pretence
that I notice not
these eyes that undress
me daily but won't
dare force me eat the dish
of love but waiting in anguish
for me to discover by myself
how tasty their meal is.
