Sonnet: Where Can I See God? Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Where Can I See God?

I searched for God in everything He made,
But could not see His countenance at all;
I sought Him where devotees sang and prayed,
But could not see Him there or hear His call!

I strained my eyes to see Him in a flow'r,
And when a mother gave her child her love;
He wasn't there in the mighty sun-beams' pow'r,
Or in the beggar seeking alms or dove.

I searched for God within my mind and heart;
The Holy Spirit left my sinful soul;
I confessed all my sins, so, on my part;
I saw God everywhere in my cleansed role.

No one has seen the Almighty till date,
But righteous find God en way to His Gate.
