Sonnet: When Does Death Come? Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: When Does Death Come?

Rating: 5.0

I never thought that she would die so soon!
I planned to come and talk to her one day;
I never knew the earth could lose its moon!
Which human being can predict God’s way?

When death takes on a person unwary,
What grief afills the members of family!
But known is nature of the cruel death!
All things must die that have a birth on earth.

’Tis nice when death can have a rapid strike!
A life of suffering, protracted, none like;
’Tis better living as if we could die;
The tempter threatens always with a lie!

Yet, God allows death seize a soul His time!
A soul needs purity in every clime.
