Sonnet On R Poem by George Price

Sonnet On R

I saw you sitting at a bar last night,
Sipping drinks, laughing softly as you do,
And not looking up, not seeing me write
Of your smiling eyes, your dress so blue,
Your twirling curls, like a tangle of down,
And that scent, that scent I remember well,
That used to make me sick at heart and frown
With knowing that I'd never hold you. Hell,
It was so hard to see you smiling then,
Without me. And now it brings back fondness
At my foolish thought; I could hold you when
I never did ask. And now there is less
Between me and you, for you are silent,
And do not look at me, so I lament.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A bit of a departure from my normal style, but I do like writing sonnets; the challenge is quite invigorating! Anyway, do let me know what you think...

Touching. I enjoyed the write, its sentimentality with still a touch of longing. Good work. If so moved check out my poem, Requitement Sought, I believe it was written in my late teens, very early 20s. Cheers & best wishes for the coming New Year.
