Sonnet: Mortal Man’s Immortal Bid Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Mortal Man’s Immortal Bid

What wonders, secrets has the universe!
The Omnipotent God’s wisdom is great;
The poet uses words aright in verse;
Creator’s word power, you can’t ev’r rate.

The human brain has genius splendid;
The scientists have accomplished many feats;
Yet, underlying stupidity’s hid;
But mortal beings must empty their seats.

Compared to human achievements, the things
That God has made are infinite in range;
Though men are better than other earthlings,
The heart and mind of man can well derange.

Immortal God made man in mortal ways;
But mortal man plays God in earthly days!
