Sonnet I Poem by Maya Reid

Sonnet I

As my footprints linger on the wet sand
Memories of the past haunt me today
Peace lies in the black and white of dreamland
You cannot be there, because love is gray
As Brigantine acts as a barrier
You used to protect me from life’s troubles
Wishing on stars, I’m missing how we were
I’m drowning, while no one checks for bubbles
As the waves crash against the rocky beach
Lost hope and loneliness are smacking me
In the face - I turn away from love’s leech
Loving you is dragging me out to sea
As attention cravers head to the shore
I don’t want to be lonely anymore.
