Sonnet: Gospel Of St.Mark Chapter 7: Verses 1-8 Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Gospel Of St.Mark Chapter 7: Verses 1-8

The laws of land are good to discipline;
The traditions are good to follow well;
So is the custom of circumcision;
Both rituals and good practices are swell.

Man’s outer make-up can deceive all eyes;
Most wear a mask on face misleading all;
Within the heart, such horrendous sin lies;
Obeying God’s commands was Jesus’ call.

God wants us to be transparent and pure;
From heart arise all heinous sin and crime;
Abominable thoughts, no one should lure;
The heart needs cleansing always for life-time.

God abhors double-speaking feigning men;
The virtuous soul alone can gain heaven.
