Sonnet 2 Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Sonnet 2

Rating: 5.0

quietly on tapestry I lie
below sea and above sky
the essential flesh and blood
be frenzied all to earthly flood

then she screamed 'O Mother dear'
those two magic words shut that fear
the brave children turn her merry face
into the spinning garden a joyful place

with an imagery stays the lights that dance
unbroken challenge, an embraced radiance
hearts were woven of mere wishes and cares
the inner soul that is within dream, so impress
on the sparkling banks of this vigorous stream
a worshiper of Divine and Nature, hither came

(dedicated to a great poet, Vikram Seth)

the thoughts of this piece are well defined, rhymes in the early part are strong and have good rhythm in the end. Excellent, well done!

It is filled with beautiful words especially these ones from the last stanza, 'with an imagery stays the lights that dance / unbroken challenge, an embraced radiance / hearts were woven of mere wishes and cares / the inner soul that is within dream, so impress / on the sparkling banks of this vigorous stream / a worshiper of Divine and Nature, hither came.' Lovely use of rhyme and rhythm.
