Sonnet # 18 Poem by John A. Hancock

Sonnet # 18

Fair Lady how doth my heart beat for thee
From the very day thou sat before my eyes
My dreams since then have been of you
I wait in anticipation for them each night
Sweet lady thy words bring forth a ray of hope
To this lonely noble knight
Whose love for thee will always be
As long as my heart beats within me the breath of life
I cannot shower thee with riches
Cause a poor man for now I be
The only treasure I can truly offer
Are the endless words of love I scribed for thee
Nightly shall I pray thou would offer me the chance I seek
To gain your love and heart for these words be the truth I speak
