Sonnet # 141 Ode To Melancholy Poem by John A. Hancock

Sonnet # 141 Ode To Melancholy

Rating: 5.0

Show me fate one who does not know
The unrelenting agony of melancholy's woe
Destroying happiness its dark obsession
Labouring incessantly to take possession
Of body and soul ere he apprehends
Every happy memory one's life transends
Thus self-esteem anon doth flee
Leaving leaving just a shadow of who I use to be
Now my own reflection I dread to spy
When unworthy thoughts myself despise
Whilst I ponder sadly my aching heart
To fill the void when happy feelings part
An e'en when the sun illuminates its rays
Above me hovers clouds of gloom each day
