Song: The Sleeper Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: The Sleeper

Rating: 5.0

It's a slow time in the morning,
With the day stretched out ahead.
Tired and stressed and yawning,
My eyes are shot and red.
An inmate in a padded cell,
Gets more respect and cred,
Than those who live the teenage hell,
And can't get out of bed!

It's a low time in the morning.
My nerves are stripped and shred.
A boiling rage is spawning,
In the cauldron of my head.
A beggar with his cup and bowl,
Has less resource to dread,
Than those pale and pallid, troubled souls,
That can't get out of bed!

Just let me sleep, awhile longer.
Just let me hit the warm hay.
An unconscious mind cannot wander,
I can't keep that slow tide at bay.
Just let me sleep, awhile longer.
Just let me slip away.
Once rested I'll be so much stronger,
To reap the full whirlwind of day.

In the flow time of believing;
From doubt to watershed.
I'll chop and crush and cleave in,
All the hidden lies unsaid.
In the web of dreams, I'm weaving,
The beast is tamed, well-fed.
But forced awake, it's seething,
When you can't get out of bed!

Just let me sleep, awhile longer.
Just let my torpor subside.
To contemplate in shallow languor,
My sloth and my stupor abide.
Just let me sleep, awhile longer.
To doze in repose and supine.
To hibernate close to a coma,
On the nod to my god and divine.

It's show time in the evening,
For the wild and wired un-dead.
The air's for heavy breathing,
Where the zombies fear to tread.
Hello? Are you receiving,
My twisted text and thread?
For a universe dies grieving,
When you can't get out of bed!

Just let me sleep, awhile longer.
Just let me sack out and stay.
In Morpheus' arms shall I linger;
His somnolent charms, shall I lay.
Just let me sleep, awhile longer.
Just let the sad guilt assuage.
Just let me keep to my slumber.
Just let me drift away.
