Some So Called Literary Experts Poem by Francis Duggan

Some So Called Literary Experts

By trying hard to separate poetry from song
Some so called literary experts have got it all wrong
Are they trying to tell us Burns was not a poet
That his songs not worthy of literary note?

Are they trying to tell us Byron was not great
That his sort of poetry we ought not to rate
Their opinions on such are quite different to mine
Though what is or is not poetry none ought to define?

About them they have such an arrogant way
On the poetry websites they like to have their say
On belittling the works of others some do find delight
But to hurt others feelings does anyone have that right?

If you cannot say something good about someone say nothing at all
Wise words from my young years that I still do recall
These self proclaimed caustic tongued literary experts on their own works should concentrate
Unless of course others do ask of them their writings to rate.
