Soldier's Memories Poem by Michael Peterson

Soldier's Memories

Fresh from high school, new to basic
Intense training, formed my buddies
From all over, different worlds
One goal, serve their country
Enter war zone, arrived shock
Bullets flying, bombs exploding
Minds wandering, buddies bonding
Scenes beautiful, children playing
Scouting area, danger ahead
Exploding IED, metal twisting
Metal flying, Buddies screaming
Fires burning, buddies bleeding
Piercing pain, saving others
Dying men, cannot be saved
Blood flowing, bones bearing
Injuries severe, may die
Buddies dying, I am surviving
Rescued, healing, will recover
Buddies gone, but not forgotten!
