***soldier Recruiting: Come On, God! …… [military Recruiting; True Story; Short Enough; Mankind] Poem by Bri Edwards

***soldier Recruiting: Come On, God! …… [military Recruiting; True Story; Short Enough; Mankind]

Rating: 5.0

I'm sitting in a coffee house,
an outcast from my home.
I brought pen and paper,
and I'll let my mind now roam.

In walk two young men with a ….
third man, still young …but older.
The third man is dressed in camouflage;
he is a U.S. Army soldier.
They sit not far from me, where I …
can hear much of what they say.
The soldier is pitching that, for a bright future,
the Army is the Way ….
to go.

The words PAY, BENEFITS, and RETIREMENT,
and TRAVEL I do hear,
but what I don't hear are the words:
WAR, KILLING, DEATH, and FEAR.
[Well, sure, not all soldiers get involved directly ….
with 'fighting' for a living.
And I know, for many people, military service …..
is considered patriotic giving.]

{I think now they're discussing paintball wars,
practice for wars more real.
Damn it! If God were such a great leader,
why couldn't PEACE, not war, …..
be the Daily Deal? }

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
this is true. i drank orange juice as i eavesdropped. i know there are arguments for having a military, and i'm tempted to buy them (some of them; at least for OUR military! !) , but....well, just read the ending again.
i was a non-military conscientious objector who worked as a civilian hospital aide in the early 1970s for two years to fulfill my 'obligation' to my county's (military) 'draft board'.

all three of my brothers served (coast guard, air force, and army) , ..............i think for lack of better things to do in their lives at the time (early 1960s to early 1970s): none served in combat, though the younger one was in vietnam.
=============================
well, now i see that i have submitted this poem a long time ago, with a different poet's note. but it is worth posting again. this time i shall begin the title with *** to get it nearer the top of my poem list. :)

and now, more years later, i have done some minor editing.

Good poem! And I would approve entirely of its message- except that the world's Hitlers, Stalins, Maos, Saddams, and assorted religious fanatic terrorist idiots give me pause.

Well, let me congratulate you for this great poem and also for eavesdropping into people's conversation. Thank God, the soldier did not notice that your stubborn ears were siphoning their conversation, I think he would have offered you a nice ice cream. ha! Well, I want you to understand that, God did not create us for our fellow human imperfect' beings to rule or exercise any form of control over us. We departed from his ways and seceded from his kingdom and so decided to organize our own way of ruling over our fellow human beings. Since we are not wise as He is, we cannot get rid of entire evil from this world. Our only source of hope is Him and he is the hope that we live upon. True peace does not exist, and will never exist along as we are ruled by imperfect beings like ourselves.Therefore, he who wants peace, should turn to the creator and leave according to his will, else any attempt to search for peace here on earth is as futile as searching for Shakespeare's poems in a mathematics textbook. Great poem though...well done!
