Softly, Gently, Blurs My World Poem by Geoff Lathy

Softly, Gently, Blurs My World

Softly, gently, blurs my world,
in spinning shades of yesterday;
yesterday were the crystal edges
of my mind, clearly, sharply, unfurled,
yesterday the standing stones,
the clear pools and forest depths,
were crowded with mossy,
verdant, gods of old, yesterday,
Yggdrasil stood tall and the
world serpent held all and
Odin, overlord was he, one-eyed,
crow accompanied, yesterday,
Cuchullain rode upon the wind
into the land of faery, Arthur
Strode upon the Dragon’s back and
Merlin was the Devil’s son, yesterday,
the world was new, and
Elves and Faery Folk and Men,
were hewn from the bark and
sap of the world tree;
yesterday, the winds called and
the Dagda wove and the fates,
yesterday the fates ruled
the world, and the wyrd was
the way of Midgard’s folk,
but then Bifrost fell,
the Rainbow Bridge was gone,
and Fenrir's howl echoed
the death knell of, yesterday
Ragnorok was come and
the One God ruled and
the old ways fell away, yesterday,
and the edges of my reality
blur ever so gently, pliantly,
and yesterday I felt the pull
of another life, the
cry of my blood
for yesterday.
