So Long Friend Poem by Ruth L. Rivers

So Long Friend

And you’re off into the unknown
Just as I’d always hoped you would
Flying free into new adventures
Just as a young single you should

Before you’re out of the ear shot
I’d like to reflect then wish you well
First on all the moments we used to have
Which age nor time could ever tell

Long conversations of right and wrong
Movies and silence mixed with us
Youth chancing at the game of life
All for a hopefully good friend to trust

You were never as good of a friend
As in the moment I made you out to be
Nor were you as bad of a chum
As the bad days would have me believe

Similar to any friendly relationship
We had our goods and really bad
The awkward moments came then went
Same goes for the happy and the sad

Growing rapports don’t grow without bumps
And along the way I’d say we had our share
From confusion to doubt there was a truth
That in life, love, or friendship nothing is fair

So that was then and quite some while ago
And now you’re moving your smart self on
With all speed, peace, n’ hope I wish you
Thank you and good luck my friend. So long!
