Slow Goodbye Poem by Dyhanara Rios

Slow Goodbye

This is my sad poetic attempt
To slow down this last goodbye.

I knew today was coming;
This is not a big surprise,
But I guess I’m still not ready
To say this last goodbye.

I don’t know what to say or do
Other than show this sad smile.
Why don’t you just stand here
And let me hold you for a while?

Perhaps I’ve made things worse
By reading you these words.
(I can tell that you see my hell –
You don’t know what to say) .
I don’t want to let you go,
But I know that I can't stay.

You should turn away now
So you don't see me cry
I know that you can’t comfort me
But I wish that you would try.

I knew today was coming;
This is not a big surprise,
But I can’t help these eyes
Or stop these tears as they rise.
I knew today was coming;
This is not a big surprise,
But I guess I’m still not ready
To say this last goodbye.
