Skating On Smooth Ice Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Skating On Smooth Ice

your knees bend slightly as your skate blades touch the smooth ice
The air is cool and calm
the music makes it twice as nice
The ice is transluscent but shaded like the white on dice
your lungs and legs are pumping hard
as your blades carve and track your turn into the ice
You make a lap around the rink
on the turns you lean and crossover and slice
legs crossing over twice or thrice
wind in your face
people blur as through they're standing in place
There is no worry or malice or vice
You're throughts are somwhere else
as if every worry has been put on ice
you lose count of laps
and the sensation is quite nice
skating on smooth ice
