Sirocco Poem by Ima Ryma

Sirocco

I'm Sirocco, a kakapo.
1997, I hatched,
Was raised by humans, doncha know,
To whom I became quite attached.
I recall this zoologist
Doing a film all about me,
A human I could not resist.
I hopped upon his head in spree.
This catapulted me to fame.
I was more than just parrot rare.
Official spokesbird I became,
Focus of a public affair.

For conservation I appeal.
I squawk for New Zealand with zeal.
