Single Person Poem by Erica Burke

Single Person

Awkward silence,
Evil glare,
He belongs with me,
Not over there.
Yet there he is,
And they don’t know,
He is about to drown,
Due to under tow.

I don’t know how,
To save him yet,
And it is safe to say,
I’m starting to sweat.

He can see me now,
And he sees my eyes,
All things he has done,
He starts to despise.
It is getting closer to the end,
He can tell it’s not far,
When both our attorneys,
Are called to the bar.
And there it is,
The decision is made,
This game by his mother,
Was very well played.
The divorce is final,
The custody, hers,
And when the audience realizes,
Not a single person stirs.
