Simple Sonnet Poem by Frank Avon

Simple Sonnet

Every day
there comes a moment,

a sign

that still I live
and my life is blessed
as it has ever been:

today
a silver titmouse
found
our big red bird feeder

and on the hillside
naked ladies
spring tall and pink
arisen.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Naked ladies are more properly designated as amaryllis belladonna, but they look more like lilies than amaryllis. Their pink blossoms stand tall on a slender stem, not fronds. Those will have already died back, and the new ones will come later; hence, these ladies are 'naked.' I think they may sometimes be called surprise lilies, for their return every year comes as a surprise (though I admit I've taken to looking for them anxiously) .

Are naked lilies the same as surprise lilies. Mine have popped up and grown over a foot in two days. Like pink asparagus.: -) Wonderful poem, Frank!

Yes, indeed. I had meant to add a comment explaining the term naked ladies, but was distracted. I've added it now. Thanks for your attention.

On the hillside! With the view of the eyes. Nice work.
