Silent Time Steam Train Evaporated Poem by Terence George Craddock

Silent Time Steam Train Evaporated

Rating: 5.0

pulling a curtain down
across the past
pulling a curtain down
upon the past

past ghosts haunt
memories
past ghosts haunt
present lives

pulling a curtain down upon
spent past veiling time future seems
silent in time lost in thoughts events
long spent long ago decisions chances echoes

parting curtain of the past has come down
now thoughts must turn to uncertain present
or pull away into images mirrors spectral futures
steam trains no longer tear down our tracks

coal no longer transforms liquid
water into stream power harnessed
as coal is sweat rhythm shoveled
into boiler mouth hunger fed red

boilers coal fed no longer sheets of fire glow red
smoke no longer plumes pointing out trail in wind
stream no longer animates click clack iron horses
coal dust dirty no longer fouls smears clothes carriages

travel has become more clinical surgical precise neat
air conditioning has mastered unseasonal ill cold heat
diesel trains need stop not for frequent water coal supplies
in the blink of an eye flash by fast bullet electric trains race
